Weight Loss Without Dieting: an interview with Jon Gabriel

By Deborah Oberon

Jon Gabriel’s book The Gabriel Method details his revolutionary method of weight loss without dieting. Morbidly obese at a weight of 182 kilos (401 lbs), Jon decided to turn his life around after a slight twist of chance meant he narrowly avoided being on the September 11, 2001 United Airlines Flight 93 that was hijacked by terrorists and crashed in Pennsylvania with no survivors.

Putting to work his extensive research skills and background in bio-chemistry, Jon decided to discover why he had spent years not only being unable to lose weight, but also continuing to put weight on despite trying many different diet and exercise programmes.

His results were transformational. Jon lost over 100kgs without dieting or surgery and has never put it back on. To the astonishment of many, his body shows no sign of having been overweight – no saggy skin, no stretch marks.

Jon’s life has totally transformed as well. From a stressed out, over-worked, unhappy New York stockbroker, Jon is now living the life of his dreams.

Jon’s book is rapidly becoming a run away success around Australia. With the English language publishing rights for the international market having recently been bought by the same publishing house that released “The Secret”, expectations are running high.

At home and at peace in the beautiful town of Denmark on the pristine South West Coast of Australia, Jon’s mission is to teach us all the method of his transformation.

Jon, how is it possible to lose weight without diet or exercise?

I’m not against exercise; I’m all for it, but in conjunction with the correct principles. Initially The Gabriel Method is not about pushing your body to do anything. It’s about teaching your body to want to be thin rather than forcing it.

All diets are based on the same basic premise – pushing against your body, controlling calories, controlling intake, controlling food types. The premise is flawed. Your body has a specific set point for the weight you are at and if you push against it, it will resist and fight back. The Gabriel Method is about changing the set point so that your body does the work for you and you don’t have to struggle anymore.

So what is the “Set Point” and how does it get set?

The set point is your body’s method of adapting to stress to make you less stressed. If you spend all day on the beach in the sun your skin will be stressed, so it tans to make your skin more resistant to the sun. In winter there is less light, which is itself a stress, so your skin turns lighter in order to absorb as much sunlight as it can. In both cases your body has adapted to the stress.

Weight is the same. If you are living in an ice age and extra fat makes the cold less stressful, your set point exists at a level where it will hold on to as much fat as possible in order to survive. If you are living in a tropical paradise, with an abundance of warmth and as much food as you can eat and there are tigers crashing in on you regularly, extra fat is a survival risk. You need to be thin to run fast to stay alive, so your set point shifts.

We don’t have ice ages and tigers chasing us now but we are living in a state of chronic stress and our body’s chemical response to this stress is what makes us fatter or thinner and how our set point gets set.

Your method is about re-setting the set point – how do you teach people to do this?

You need to address all the stresses that are making you fatter.

Diets push your body to a state of famine: nutritional starvation from processed food devoid of essential nutrients creates a state of famine; your body’s difficulties in assimilating nutrition create famine; not getting enough water or sleep creates famine.

There is also a clear mind/body link. Constant worry about money and time – not feeling like you have enough of it – can create a sense of famine. Many people experience emotional obesity due to emotional trauma they have experienced in the past. The weight acts as a buffer against the world: your body is trying to protect you and put some space between you and the stresses that might hurt you. This was an issue for me – I had experienced some emotional abuse as a child and I definitely felt safer as a bigger guy.

Another really important factor that needs to be addressed is accumulated toxicity. We are exposed to so many toxins in our modern lives – in our food, in our water: pesticides, fertilisers, chemical additives, medications. If your body can’t eliminate all the toxins, they get stored in the fat cells because fat cells are chemically neutral and act as a buffer between you and the toxins. If you burn fat, you release the toxins back into the body. Once again your body is trying to protect you by adapting to stress.

The Gabriel Method takes you through a process of addressing all of these issues over time. The less stressed your body becomes, the less it is existing in a state of famine, the more able it is to lower the set point and release the weight.

You have mentioned that at a certain point during your research you switched from researching obesity to researching starvation. Why did you do this?

I had a realisation that obese people were living in a state of starvation response. You’ve heard of the metabolic response – it is the precursor to Type 2 Diabetes and is experienced by many overweight and obese people. The chemical changes that occur when the body is experiencing metabolic response – insulin resistance, elevated cortisol levels, elevated triglycerides, elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines such as c-reactive protein, tumour necrosis factors, alpha and inter lukin 6 – are the exact same chemical responses that exist in a person who is starving.

So an obese person presenting to a doctor with these chemical responses occurring in their body and clearly on the verge of Type 2 Diabetes: what’s their doctor going to tell them to do? Diet, which then only pushes the body further into a state of stress and starvation response!

I gave a paper in June 2007 to the American Holistic Medical Association at the University of Portland in Oregon. When I explained the significance of the link that diets worsen the metabolic response thereby increasing the likelihood of Diabetes Type 2, I watched a whole conference room full of doctors share an “Ah ha!” moment – it was fantastic!

The lack of evidence on your skin of you ever having been overweight is truly remarkable – how do you explain this?

One of the key aspects of my method is that it re-balances the hormones. Cortisol is a hormone that increases when a person is overweight or obese and as it decreases the skin’s elasticity improves. The Gabriel Method is a gradual process as all the stresses need to be addressed first before the body starts to want to be thin. This gives the hormones time to rebalance and gives the skin time to adjust.

What specific part of the method rebalances the hormones?

The whole method has been geared towards increasing the body’s sensitivity to Insulin and to Leptin. Leptin is the key hormone that controls weight loss and weight gain. Leptin communicates with the hypothalamus, but if, what I call “a person’s FAT programmes” are switched on, then the hypothalamus stops “listening” to it.

Leptin wasn’t actually discovered until the late 1990s at which point the scientists involved believed they had discovered a cure for obesity. They successfully bred rats without Leptin and the rats grew to three times their normal size. When they started giving them Leptin the rats reduced to an average weight/size ratio. When they started injecting obese people with Leptin, it made no difference. The Leptin is there, but the hypothalamus just isn’t responding to it.

How significant is visualisation as an aspect of your method?

Visualisation has been an incredibly important part of the process for me. Every day I pictured myself as the teenager I’d been at 82 kilos – it was simply a matter of time. I spoke with a woman the other day who is having great success with my method, particularly with the visualisation. She told me about her son who had been diagnosed with leukemia some years ago and given two months to live. They spent time every day visualising a PacMan eating all the sick cells in his body. He completely cured himself and is alive and well today.

Your body is living consciousness and doesn’t speak English, so communicating in pictures is a language it understands.

You talk about “SMART mode” in your book – can you explain this?

SMART mode is Super Mental Awareness Re-Education Training Mode. In this state your mind is 10 to 100 times more powerful. Your brain has a number of modes it exists in:

Beta mode is when we are talking, doing, thinking – the brain waves are traveling at 15-30 cycles a second and quite chaotic.

The Alpha state is when you are in your “zone”, you are focused – like when you are playing a sport, painting a picture, playing a musical instrument. The brainwaves are traveling at 7-14 cycles a second and the amplitude is higher and more powerful.

The Theta state is like deep meditation. The brainwaves are traveling at 4-7 cycles per second – this is the state where visualisation is most powerful. A great analogy is if you were looking in a pool of water at your reflection, ripples across it distort the image. If the pool is still, your reflection is clear.

I’m interested to return to this idea of how your method enables your body to “want to be thin” – can you explain this a bit further?

Diets all start out the same way. You lose weight very quickly at first and then your weight loss slows down. Finally you stop losing weight altogether, only to gain it back a short time later. The most amazing thing that happened with my method was the longer I was losing weight the faster I lost it. The longer I followed my method the more my body craved what it really needed in terms of food and exercise.

It made me realize that your body has complete control over how fast you burn fat. If it wants to be thinner it will burn fat easily. The Gabriel Method removes the struggle. If you simply address the stresses your body is under, your body will do the work for you.

As I finish writing this interview, today’s West Australian is sitting on my desk. The lead story is about the alarming rates of obesity amongst children and teenagers and the increasing number who are being diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. A major health crisis is on our hands, yet, as Jon points out, the tools to our transformation are easily within our reach.

Deborah Oberon is the founder and creator of the Elemental Certified Organic Skin Care range and a fellow Denmark resident. She has dropped from 66 kg to 58 kg over the last 6 months using Jon’s method and thoroughly and enthusiastically recommends his book to everyone irrespective of weight issues.

  1. Hi
Well some of you may have noticed that I haven’t been blogging. That’s because I have been too busy putting weight on!! As you know I came to NT after getting a seretonin imbalance due to a low fat ketosis diet. I began taking Lexapro (SSRI) but developed really bad body acne from it so I had to wean myself off it and onto Remotiv (St John’s Wort). Unfortunately, it has taken me ages to get off the Lexapro and I was suffering from brain zaps the whole time as my brain was having trouble with rewiring my neuronal circuits. I began taking high dose fish oil, multi vitamin, St Johns Wort, Kava occasionally and calc/mag. Whilst this was all happening I ate lots of carbs to compensate for my bodies seretonin imbalance with lots of fat and put on weight (kilo a week!!!!). Now 6 kilos on I have stopped putting the weight on and have normalised the seretonin thanks to Karen McElroy who is my angel naturopath. I have Jon’s book and have been absorbing it for 2 months now. I finally all the principles down and will begin the weight loss journey soon. I have been trying to focus on convincing my body to feel safe and I must be doing a good job because for the first time in months I feel this need to walk. Just in the last few days I have felt like going for walks and just moving around as much as I can. I think I am feeling vitality? The other thing that has happened is I feel like eating lots of raw foods like salads and fruit. So now I can’t stop thinking about walking and eating salads with yummy dressings. Anyway, I’ll let you know how I get on. The only trouble I see is the cold here in Ballarat. I tell you, it is so cold here that I really hope that my body doesn’t decide to keep me chubby so that I am well insulated!!

  2. Dear Ms Vermes,

I think your serotonin imbalance has scrambled your neuronal circuits a little more than you thought.

    What a load of

  3. I started with the GabrielMethod two months ago. I lost almost 8 kilos and I am not hungry. I did do not get into a diet and I eat whatever I want.
But “whatever I want” is a strange thing: since I started with the GM I like a lot salads!! I drink lot of water and I practice visualization every time I can. In fact, I love to make phisical exercises nowadays. I run every day 5 km but I do it enjoying the time, no stressed.
Also, I took omega 3 pills every day and probiotics. I have learned about proteins for instance.

Summary, i reccomended strongly this method. I need to lose 15 kilograms more but I know that I will be able to do it.

  4. hi i was wondering were can i get this book? and any hints on how to get started?

  5. Hi sharon you can order the gabriel method off of the website http://www.jongabriel.com.au best of luck :)

  6. where are you Shannon?
I bought the book in Perth, WA.
It is no hard to find in any library

Recently I’ve seriously decided to get off my butt and try and lose the extra 20kg I put on since college and have been trying to do everything “right” with some success to date. I’m a science student at the university of canberra and reading all the physiological evidence Jon quotes has been fairly remarkable in that he takes well founded scientific “truths” (with a fair amount of psychological theory thrown in) but applies them in ways I’ve never even contemplated before. Obesity has a really high level of concordance among twins or in other words has a high genetic component. If this really can affect a change in the way your genes express themselves then it is truly absolutely revolutionary. Also, anything that can reduce stress can’t be a bad thing!

To those following low carb diets, be careful about cutting them down too much. Most people don’t realise that your brain and (i think) heart can not use fat as an energy source so they must have glucose (carbs) or protein (usually from muscle >_<) to continue to function. If you cut your carbs down significantly then your body will eventually break down your lean body mass (muscle) to compensate, resulting in weight loss, but NOT much fat loss! This can also lead to some serious fatigue issues and in fact, cutting out carbs entirely would eventually put you in a coma… It’s important to feel good and motivated about any weight loss effort!

To everyone looking to lose the extra kilos, best of luck to us all!

  8. well its christmas eve a great time to be thinking about losing weight!! as soon as christmas is over i will get a copy of this book and put the strategies discussed into place and see how i go. i will post my progress once i start. merry christmas all!!

  9. I agree with Karlos at (2).

  10. I have just ordered the book , so hopefully it will arrive anyday now. I cannot imagine it helping me as nothing else has and I find positive thinking hard to do at the minute. Over weight, no energy, 4 kids. I just want to be healthy and without thinking about it too much.
Ill write again if the book changes my thinking

  11. I read about this method today and just looking at the pics of Jon Gabriel you have to say whatever he did it works! I will have some of whatever he is having please… I need to lose weight, get blood pressure and high cholesterol levels down and generally become a lot more healthy. Don’t know if losing (hopefully) 20 kgs or more will be the cure all but I am ceratinly willing to give his method a go. I emailed him asking some questions, if he reckons my BP and cholesterol will improve then I’m on it. I will certainly let anyone who is interested know what happens. Trying to keep the positivity going is the big challenge, I need to see the scales moving in the right direction.

  12. Hi everyone, I just got Jon’s book about a week ago and already I’ve noticed some improvements! I suddenly don’t like junk food anymore… It’s so weird but true! Every time I eat something bad for me it feels like I can’t quite taste it. Sort of like wearing a rubber glove over your tongue. I eat heaps more healthy food now.. And even if I don’t lose any weight I’m happy because now I at least don’t have to diet just to MAINTAIN my weight!

  13. Yep, Ms Vermes at (1) sounds like a self-overdiagnosing fruit loop. Those ‘brain zaps’ may be an internal response to the utter shyte you are forcing it to create.

  14. While I enjoyed the Jon Gabriel book, I must admit it didn’t really work for me. Still not sure why. This review of the book on OptimalBodyWeight.com probably conveys a view similar to mine.

  15. Sally, did you listen to the audio visualization EVRY night as you were going to sleep? Did you really follow it? If so for how long? I am following it and it’s the first time that I actually enjoy a plan like this and I am loving the healthy foods, not dreading them. I can’t say that it has worked or not worked yet as it hasn’t been enough time, but eating like this has to be healthier.

  16. Hi there everyone. My name is Jayde, and I am a fifteen year old female. I recently heard of this book, and I decided to look into it with more depth.
I’ve been overweight my whole life, and am now considered “obese”. I’m really curious about this book, and just wanted to get opinions from people like you.
First; is it sold at local book stores? My mom is skeptic about this, and we wanted to read some of it before buying.
Two; Does it really work? I mean, I’m looking to loose about 80 pounds by christimas, and I am currently on Herbal Magic, but it dosnt seem to be working for me. I’m practicly on the verg of going crazy, and I feel I need to loose weight.
Three; about how long will it take to loose the weight, and does it work for someone with low self esteem? *blush*
I really hope you guys can help me out (:
    Thank you.
    Jayden.

  17. Hi Jayde,
I too am looking to buy this book, I need to lose about 60 pounds myself and am curious. There seem to be some mixed results - some people take a lot from it and really succeed, and others think it’s a load of quack and advise others to give it a miss. I personally think it will have a lot to do with your state of mind, how strongly you believe, and your sense of self worth. From what I have read, it seems like the people who take it on 100% and believe unconditionally are the people who have the greatest success. I’ve been on many diets in my time (I’m only 21), but the ones I stuck to - and I mean to the letter - were the ones that worked best for me. Sure, these were quick fixes at the time, but I have gone from being 112kg (~250 pounds) down to 85 (~185 pounds) in 2 years by sticking to a healthy eating plan, and excersizing til I sweated 5 times a week doing cardio and weights. I will buy the book, and if I succeed I’ll definitely re-post on here, but I can tell you that losing weight relies very heavily on your own mind and your faith in yourself. I know its cheesy, but the power of positive thinking really does play a massive part in all of this - as well as eating less energy than you need each day, getting the right nutrition, and excersizing. Good luck with everything :)
(and trust me, life after highschool is a million times better for voluptuous beauties like us x)

  18. Any deaf people on this program??
I guess it is a no go for deaf people as it mentions listening to Audio at night??
    Or is there an alternative?
    Can anyone comment?

  19. I have just bought Jon Gabriels book and I am wondering if there is anyone else with a similar situation to me. I have been anorexic for nearly 22 years. Actually that freaks me out just writing it! I am what they call a ‘high functioning’ anorexic in that I live a full happy life,am very happily married and have a gorgeous 2 1/2 year old daughter. I dont suffer from debilitating depression ( any more) and run my own sucessful business. My illness has been ‘refined’over the years and now mainly manifests itself in a overwhelming desire to restrict food and calories ( I am Vegan) and to keep my weight as low as possible. I currently weigh 48kgs(at 166cms tall) which is too much for me. My goal is 45kgs.That is where I am happy and feel safe. Anyway, I am hoping that Jon’s book might help me re-boot my brain to understand weight gain and loss and the biochemical as well as emotional reasons behind these 2 states of mental being. I firmly believe that severely over and under weight people have very similar emotional dependancies. We both ‘use’ food and weight to hide or conversely make very clear our emotional pain. With me it is about control and deeply ingrained cognitive behavoiral issues ie; a habit! I would love to hear anyones opinion on this especially those who have read Jon Gabriels book.

  20. I’ve been following Jon’s plan, doing the visualizations & listening to the CD over and over every night for about 2 weeks.. It’s amazing. I’ve lost almost all my cravings for bad carbs. I eat raw spinach as part of my breakfast every morning. I’ve even been exercising in the morning before work. I didn’t think I would ever do that!! I am very thankful that I found the info on him. I was researching Leptin info when I found Jon’s info. I’ve also read “The Rosedale Diet” and am reading “Mastering Leptin” and “The Leptin Diet.” I’ve taken some info from the Leptin Diet & have been applying a few of their basic principles, too. I’ve lost about 4 lbs. in the past two weeks (total weight loss for 2 mos is about 12 lbs) and my pants are noticeably baggier. I plan to continue this program. I also take the Garden of Life supplements he recommends. I have about 65 lbs. more to lose, but feel like I’m well on my way & I don’t feel deprived at all. This plan is working for me. I encourage any of you to take it very seriously & to try it.
P.S. to Helen, he recommends some visualization exercises you can do when you are just getting ready to fall asleep or in a meditative state sitting up. He tells you in the book exactly what to do, what to visualize, what to say to yourself. Hope that helps!

  21. Hi
Jon Gabriel now does a live weekly radio show online, you can also listen to the podcast after the show has ended.
Go to his website for the details/links.
    Cheers,
    Ben.

  22. So this method uses a kind of hypnotherapy! I’ve read all the blogs but everyone skirts around what it is, that this method uses. Please explain in simple small words for the stupid. How long and often do you have to listen to the CD provided?

  23. Hi Jenny,
Not hypnotherapy, it’s guided visualisation (imagining you are in the shape, health, size etc you want to be - feeling it as if it were now) with guided positive sayings (designed to ‘turn off your fat programs’ ie. beliefs, fears etc that subconsciously cause you to self-sabotage or not release weight). Make sense? The CD is listened to once a day at bedtime, as you go to sleep. It’s about 15-20 minutes, but less if you fall asleep :-) You listen to it daily for 2 months, after that you can keep listening only if you feel like it, it’s optional. I still listen to mine as it helps me relax and fall asleep (huge insomniac here). It is a great program, it’s about ‘not dieting’ and getting your mindset right, so your body wants to release the weight, without dieting, rules, carb counts etc etc.
    Cheers,
    Ben.

  24. I just started a week ago, after listening to the CD once, I jumped out of bed, made the mother of all salads and drank 2 litres of water. The next day I was buying pro biotics. God I hope this works. Have been overweight for 10 years and I do not over eat, but my energy levels are terrible. In the book John describes emotional obesity and starvation….I had the lot, it makes more sense than anything I have seen. I know I am not lazy or an over eater.

  25. Hey, came by this on google when doing a search under the gabriel Method.

Thought id share my experiences in the hope the it inspires/convinces you to give it a try.
    I’m a male my late 20’s.

Ok so over the last 20 months ive lost approx 30kg. (i didnt write down my peak weight as i was too embarrased with myself.. but it was about 115 - 117kg)
I’ve always been up and down with my weight ever since i was a kid. I think the main thing when i was young is that i generally consumed too much food. and was not active enough. The bigger the size of food on my plate the more my eyes loved it. hehe hey.. food is a beaut thing.
I was never huge on junk food and i’ve always consumed a very low sugar intake in terms of soft drinks , donuts, fast food etc. Soft drinks are probably the WORST liquid you could consume in my opinion. loaded with sugar, and good knows what… ESPECIALLY COKE… yuck. Do your insides a favour.. dont go near it. Who knows how big i would have been if id consumed the amount of soft drink people do.

Anyways, from jan 07 to june 07 i lost about 8 - 10kg. It took time to get the fitness up at the gym being that overweight, so it took time and the weight came off slowly. My diet wasnt too bad but to be honest i cant exactly remember what i was eating. It definately lacked in omega 3 etc. Before heading OS in July i was surfing the net and came by an ad for the gabriel method. So i checked it out. I’ve NEVER purchased any books or gimmicks nor been on any fad diets or any other marketing BS.. But something about the gabriel method sounded interesting so i received it just in time before i headed OS for 4 weeks.
Read the book in an entire day whilst waiting for a flight at hong kong airport.
Got home and started putting everything into place. I bought a bag of flaxseed, purchased a coffee bean grinder to crush the flax, purchased 90% of my food from the local growers, listened to the meditation cd most nights to begin with (still listen to it from time to time as i find its like a reset button if i find myself getting off track and unfocused) and i train at the gym 3 -6 times per week. My training is currently based on carb cyclying. so i consume starch based carbs (oats, wholewheat pasta, sweet potato) on weight training days and only salads and vegies on cardio days and i don’t combine weights and cardio in the one training session. Carb cycling keeps me feeling good and makes recovering from weight training a little easier as i am trying to put on size. However on my cardio only days the idea is too keep sugar levels even and as low as possible whilst eating 5 - 7 times on both days so your metabolism is nice and fast. plus protein all days of course and always consuming almonds, walnuts and sometimes fish oil tablets. However im a bit suss on fish oil tablets.
i also have the odd pizza or lasagna… fast food only when im hungover.. haha
my alcohol intake varies, when i drink beer i drink lots in the one session (every couple of weeks) and i love red wine. on average i have a few glasses a week. but then dont touch it for a month.. always changes. I never drink beer during the week.

So since starting the gabriel method ive lost about 22kg. im aiming to be about 80kg in several weeks. First time in a LONG time.. happy days. total of approx 35 - 37kg. Hopefully that will be almost 6 pack material soon.

Alongside the gabriel method’s recommendations - i really recommend consuming as little processed foods as humanly possible. If it came from a plant, eat it, if it was made IN a plant, DO NOT EAT IT!!!!!!. simple yeh? Once you loose the weight and stick to that basic principle, exercise a little and get good sleep you should be sweet from fat gain for the rest of your life.

Supporting my claim of the above… Take a walk around Sydney’s CBD and have a real good look at the general population. LOTS of overweight people, (their fat looks like its a shield from the stresses of their daily lives…puffy/bloated look.) consuming WAY too much dairy from all the cappaccino’s and trans fat/sugars/bread from processed/city fast foods. Lets not forget sitting behind a desk for 10 to 12 hours per day and no sunlight.
Oh yeh can i also mention staying away from flour/grain based foods and milk. We DO NOT NEED too much of it. Bread…. dont touch it. its rubbish. Dont care if its white, wholegrain its all crap. I like rye, rarely eat it though and im still unsure about it. Milk.. soooo processed… there is way more calcium in brocolli. The dairy industry just say its high in calcium (but high to what? haha) so we consume it.. dont believe what’s marketed to you.
    Organic milk if anything.

Another thing to take note of is i’ve not eaten commercial CEREAL OR TOAST for breakfast in almost 2 years. (ok.. the odd time when im not at home but only because there was nothing else to stick in my gob…VERY RARE.)
Apart from oats and wit bix and some muesli mixes i would really avoid putting any of them in your mouth ever again. Its all loaded with sugar, preservatives etc. and THEY ARE NOT ‘FOOD’! Like most of the packaged stuff on coles/woolworths shelves.

My fav breakfast…. and let me tell you.. it will make you feel awesome… EVERYDAY!

    My smoothie recipe….
    - 1 - 2 cups frozen raw blueberries
    - 1 or 2 table spoons organic coconut milk/cream
    - 1 - 2 tablespoons crushed flaxseed
    - 1 table spoon whey protein
    - 2 eggs.. 1 yolk
    - if i did weight training that morning 2 tablespoons oats
    - 1 teaspoon cinnamon ( or to taste.. also helps keep sugar levels stable)
    - tble spoon honey
    - half a cup water or depends how thick you like it… experiment!

    BLEND!

Ok.. i know blueberries are expensive… IF YOU DONT LOOK AROUND..
Search out for your cities frozen berry supplier.
If you live in Sydney you can purchase a 12kg box of blueberries for $96 yep.. cheap, REALLY healthy and you’ll never go back to cereal EVER again.
They also sell lots of other berries. I wish i got commission for this..haha

    http://www.berryman.com.au

If society doesn’t start paying serious attention to all the toxins they’re consuming the human race really is in for a rude shock over the next century.

Dont believe me..? take a really good look around at all the toxins (i.e fat) hanging off pretty much everyone.

If your into reading, some other great books i’ve read since the gabriel method are:

    - The four hour work week
    - I will teach you to be rich

The final thing id like to say is a quote from the four hour work week….

‘ what you fear most is what you most must do’

Good luck, and make the effort to search out good information.

    thanks.

  26. Good day

I read all the comments on this book, what I would like to know .. is this book available in South Africa, Johannesburg .

I was just thinking about my weight last night and this morning happen to read about Gabriel method.
Would love to know were to get this.

  27. Cindy,
If you go to the website, gabrielmethod.com.au/buy , you can get it there.

  28. I just bought Jon’s book.
and I’ve been doing the visualization for 7 days.

I know that visualization techniques work as
I learned the method from an organisation called the
Pacific Institute in Seattle Washington more than 30 years
    ago.

I used the techniques to tame a teenager in my class who could
be nicely referred to as a handful. What’s more it worked! In fact
she got an A from me (very hard to do) for 2 out of the 3 terms I had her.

I hadn’t thought about using the same sort of techniques to get a healthy body
until I picked up Jon’s book.

    I’ll keep you all informed

  29. I just came across Jon Gabriel’s book, while searching for something else on the web. Most of us struggle with our weight, so I was naturally curious. Then I read that he makes use of visualization, and being a Christian, I know the dangers thereof. Below is a part of an article (I will supply the website for further study) written by Bob DeWaay - a Christian Pastor and Publisher for who I have the utmost respect. You see, I don’t believe in a “higher power”. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and God Himself. That is why I cannot make use of meditation, because you are meeting spirit guides when you are in the meditative state. You may loose weight, but spiritually it is going to cost your soul. That is how satan get people ensnared - by giving them things that they want to make them happy - then enslave you to him. An eternal life is waiting for those who believe in Jesus Christ and an eternal damnation for those who don’t. Please make wise decisions. Below is a part of the article that Bob DeWaay wrote, with his website.

    Loving Regards,

Sleeping is one time that all humans are in a different state of consciousness. The alpha level of brain activity happens when people are entering sleep and waking up. The theta level is a where people go under deep hypnosis or deep meditation, and in the early stages of sleep.21 Hypnosis and eastern meditative techniques purposely put someone in an altered state of consciousness with the hope of learning something about the unconscious or subconscious mind or contacting the world of the spirits.

Foster claims that what he often receives through meditation is guidance for solving problems and living a better life, approvingly citing Kelsey to that end.22 He points out that people who are not religious have other uses for meditation:

It may have value in dropping our blood pressure or in relieving tension. It may even provide us with meaningful insights by helping us get in touch with our subconscious mind. But the idea of actual contact and communion with a spiritual sphere of existence sounds unscientific and faintly reasonable. If you feel that we live in a purely physical universe, you will view meditation as a good way to obtain a consistent alpha brain-wave pattern.23

Morton Kelsey describes altered states of consciousness and the benefits of them. He describes various versions of Eastern religion which enable the “conscious mind to halt.”25 Writes Kelsey, “In both Yoga and Zen meditation, the activity of the brain changes. Alpha and sometimes theta waves are produced, and in both of these the capacity of the mind changes.”26 He says, “[P]sychic gifts often depend on a state of relaxation like this. The most gifted psychics often have to relax to the point where silence begins to take over before they can tune in to these gifts.”27 The following material is Kelsey telling what sort of capacities can be gained by being in an altered state of consciousness through Eastern forms of meditation:

A person may become open to telepathy and thus know what is going on in other people’s minds, to precognition, . . . to clairvoyance, . . . or to psychokinesis (one’s thoughts have some kind of direct effect upon physical objects, including healing of humans beings). These capacities are often found among Hindu gurus, Zen masters, or anyone who uses deep meditation, as well as among Christian saints. They appear to be one of the results of continued meditation. There is danger, of course, if people enter meditation just to find these capacities.28

  30. Hi and great report “Snowman” (25) !
Finally someone who posted their experience.
I got the book a few weeks ago (maybe 3) and lost 3 kg right in the beginning but most important … I feel much more energized and I’m back to having fun exercising.
I was ok with my weight (actually friends thought I was way better than ok figure-wise) most of my life until I became very ill some 6 years ago and I gained.
So I think the Gabriel Method is the perfect balance of MIND and BODY .
Yes it works and as long as one resolves their emotional issues first - they will be fine and they will be successful !
I try to post later on after a few more months and I hope others will too.

I’m so sorry to have to say this people, but really…
“loose” is what your pants will be after you “lose” the weight.
I find I can barely bring myself to read your many wonderful comments because of this constant spelling error - so I “lose” the message due to my own one-track mind, which is a shame when you all have so many helpful things to say and you are all so supportive of each other!
