Thank you so much Mr and Mrs Schmeiser,

We need more people like you in all our societies.

My partner and I come from Western Ausrtalia. We are not primary producers but of course all of us are food consumers. We retired teachers, business owners and part time authors. We are appaled at this company.

We have just seen the film "The World According to Monsanto"directed by a French award winning journalist Marie-Monique Robin . We are trying to inform everybody we know about this largely hidden issue.

As one of your respondents said she is surpised that no more people have written to you. We are not surprised as even some of our farmer friends are totally ignorant of the facts. I've go letters flying everywhere as our newly elected state government has just approved giant GM trials (thousands of acres) in Esperance - a farming community in the south east of our huge state. Perhaps they think that its isolation will avoid the contamination. We all know that that is impossible.

I've also just found, on the web, that a Community Organization somehow linked with the New South Wales Goernment is advertising generous funding for studies of somesort given by guess who? It seems to me that that company is the most evil on the face of this earth. As Vandana Shivra Nobel prize winner in India says in the documentary - This company is more dangerous than bombs.

It's propaganda is inciduous and deadly. I've also just read another study conducted by a reputable university in Adelaide on how GM can be better marketed to the public to lower their resistance to the product.

This company should be hauled to court for genocide on a world wide scale not courted by governments.

Thanks again for your bravery.

Viva Perry Schmeiser!
Sir, you are indeed a true Hero- standing up the evil Monsanto corporations.
I am from Indonesia- we have little control over what farmers grow. Yet farmers are incredibly suspicious of the 'aid' seeds the US and Canada NGO's attempt to peddle.
All Asian civilizations are built upon a foundation of thousands of years of proven organic small-scale agriculture- we have no need for corporate 'wisdom'. Many people still tend a small crop patch even in developed urban areas.
Furthermore the hidden agenda of pharmaceuticals in crops is perceived by many intellectuals not only as a way for insatiably greedy corporate Satans to gain yet greater profit margins with lower production costs, but as a means of gaining captive emerging markets or more insidiously as a means of population control (not for ideological or racial purposes but for dividing the proceeds of finite resources among fewer, thus greater profits).

It is entirely criminal how the US government has sold its' own people off for corporate greed and favour.
And now the war in Iraq for Big Oil, KBR and Halliburton.

I truly hope Americans can rise up and overthrow an oppressor much worse than Mad Geoge III.

PS- we all love Americans- hate Bush , Cheney and NeoCons.
most warmly,
Purba Negoro.

Give me grass fed animals any day.. none of the animals we eat will eat grains unless the farmers are looking for shortcuts..
I was fortunate enough to have a T-bone from Cornucopia( think that's how you spell it) farm recently, it was the sweetest I have had in years.. fed totally on grass as it should be. forget the grains..

My family was chased off the prairies in the '30s in Bennett Wagons, and headed for poverty and welfare in Ontario. The same western conservative bumpkins are in power today. They gave the prairies to the large companies then, have given Canada's chance at technology away in the 50's with the Avro Arrow, and are currently peddling Alberta oil away of minuscule royalties. All Monsanto has to do is to ask, and the canola is theirs. This government has a record of sucking up to big business and losing for the Canadian people. They must be corporate leaders or major stockholders in disguise. God Help us, give us pro-Canada patriots for leaders and get rid of these carpet baggers for the American and multi-national corporations.

There are no words for this despicable tragedy. The problem seems so gigantic here in America. What can I do? Move to Europe? I'd love to, but I can't leave my parents, grandma, in-laws, etc. Sometimes I feel like we need to start a "reverse immigration" back to the more sensible countries from which our ancestors came. But really, what would that solve?

I'm going to start taking a more active role in this. Where to start? I work for a local organic food co-op. I buy organic for my family. Those are starts, but what more can I do on a larger scale? While still being a mom, PT employee, wife, etc.

I don't want to live in a world where corporate and government greed eventually starves us all...Lisa in MN, USA

I'm sickened by this. Absolutely sickened. I have been turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to these issues, because I knew when I started to dig and research I would feel compelled to do something. Now that my son has entered the world, ignorance is not a choice anymore. I want there to be something left for him to be proud about in this country, the Home of the FREE. My heart feels heavy, knowing that farmers; the nourishers of our land, are being attacked by tyrants! One would hope that our modern, civilized world would be beyond this. I think we have stooped so low in the last 100 years. It's all for a profit. We have now genetically altered the course of history. I was reading this article and stopped half way to look down at my chicken soup which I topped with a few organic corn chips (my husband buys them, I don't normally indulge). I pushed the soup aside and wondered if they were truly organic or had they too been contaminated. I feel outraged, mostly because I am a small, fairly uneducated voice as far as this matter in concerned. I'm not really sure what to do with this information, or how I can stand up against it. Is it too late? I'm sure not, I'll keep looking into the matter and see what I can do. Maybe if there are enough small voices, we'll be heard.

This is absolutely horrifying and I'm surprised there haven't been more responses to this article. I already knew most of this story as I've heard bits and pieces of it over the years. While reading the article, I started to think "oh well, maybe this will force us into being grain free" but then I had an "uh duh" moment: our animals need grain so not eating grain doesn't solve the problem - it goes up the food chain. Monsanto is evil. GMO crops have recently been approved in NSW which basically means that's it for Australia. We need to fight this in any way we can. The Howard government has left us a legacy. We could have been a GMO-free country being an island continent but tragically, that's no longer possible. GMO crops are already being grown in areas of Australia. Monsanto is evil and stops at nothing to stomp on people who try to get in their way. We must continue to fight this and not be complacent. The consequences of GMO are drastic.

I believe that monsanto is one of the major evils this planet is facing. they appear to be experimenting on a broad scale with a hidden long term agenda which can only be guessed at.
