To the Authors and to Anne. I recommend that you consider that childhood vaccinations could have played a role in your children's bowel disorders and the shingles. The largest part of the lymphatic system resides in the bowels and disturbances there will increase susceptibility to disease, impair the ability to absorb nutrients and could lead to losses in barrier integrity thus allowing toxins into the body that don't belong. Antibiotics which are often used in the immuno-altered, vaccine-injured can add insult to injury regarding the health of the bowel and the susceptibiliy to further disease. Please do read up on the effect of live virus vaccines on the bowel, the ingredients in vaccines and their toxicities, the actual effectiveness of each vaccine (not probably what you think), the real risk of the childhood diseases in nutritionally balanced children before allowing any further vaccines to be swallowed, snorted or injected into your precious children. I will provide you with some links to get you started if you need them. There are also many wonderful books that can give you information that your doctor probably doesn't know about, and that the CDC doesn't want you to know about. As a medical doctor who has witnessed many adult and childhood vaccine injuries I attest that this is a real phenomenon that requires further independent investigation on the part of doctors and parents. There is no rush to vaccinate until you have learned all you need to know in order to make a good decision for your children. http://www.whale.to/a/bowel.html What you heard and read on the news is NOT the truth about Dr Wakefield and the link between autism and vaccines. Remember that the sponsors of major news and medical journals have a vested interest in maintaining the belief in vaccines and medicines. The drug companies prosper from the illnesses created after vaccines, not just from vaccines. Another great resource with many many peer reviewed references to help you see the problems with any of the vaccines is here. http://beyondvaccination.com/ Best of luck and thank you for such a wonderful and healing recipe.

Melodie, Yes it will! if you buy the book "Restoring your digestive health" it has a section specificlly dealing with that diseases, but you always start off using the soup regardless of your problem. I personally used the book and swear by it. Now every day I take natural herbs and vitamins where I used to take 9 - 15 meds a day. Well worth it in my opinion.

My daughter is 27, autistic, had shingles 3 times which have been causing herpetic nerve ending pain in the eye area where the shingles always appear. We have known she has leaky gut for a long time, tried many diets to no avail. As she gets older, her digestive problems are getting worse. We have found the GAP diet, and once again I am trying because she can't make it without us doing something. We are really trying hard, but she still cries with pain, her lower abdomen becomes so distended that she looks pregnant. We know she is loaded with toxins not only from the leaky gut, but also constipation resulting from 3 months of pain meds and antibiotics. We are trying the Natrene probiotics, following what Dr. MCbride told us on GAPS, but don't feel we are seeing results as we should. The constipation has eased some with all of the enemas, but I have no idea how long it takes to be sure there is no old waste in the colon. I recently ordered some organic pork and saw the chicken feet thing and the mention of Brasco Broth. Does it sound like our situation could be helped

Gayle,
If your daughter wants to heal her gut it is mandatory that she consume LOTS of animal products and MINIMIZE most plants (at least in the beginning of the healing phase). Plants are too problematic re: lectins, and other gut irritants. The real benefit from this broth is from the minerals, glucosamines, chondroitans, gelatin, and glycine that comes from the bones and cartilage of the chicken, not the plant components. As a former vegetarian that developed Ulcerative Colitis I cannot stress how important it is to completely abandon that way of eating. These days I constantly have a stock pot full of bone broth as it is almost miraculous in its ability to help heal the gut so long as other lifestyle/dietary factors are in place.

So to answer your question yes there is a substitution for chicken. It is cow, turkey, deer, or pig. No, I'm sorry but there is no vegan substitution that can bring the healing benefits of an animal based broth. Please work on getting your daughter to eat animal products. Good luck with your daughters Crohn's.
